Agricultural Tour

The Yazoo County Convention and Visitors Bureau is very proud of our newly developed agricultural tours. The tour starts out at El Dorado Plantation, owned and operated by Jean and Sonny Baskin. This Mississippi Delta farm has been in the Baskin family since 1919. There you will experience all the southern hospitality a rural farm has to offer. Located 5 miles north of Yazoo City in the heart of the Delta, you will see 2,500 acres of cotton, 1,700 acres of row crops (beans, milo, corn), 800 acres of hardwoods and 150 acres of rolling pasture and grazing cattle. This stop will prove to be very educational and informative.

Next on the tour is the Yazoo Planters Gin. This totally modernized and mechanized gin is where approximately 32,000 bales of Yazoo's cotton is ginned each year. of the eight Yazoo County gins, Yazoo Planters Gin ranks second in total production county wide. Yazoo County is the largest county in Mississippi, producing the most pounds per acre of cotton than elsewhere across the state. This is a fascinating stop for those intrigued by the cotton industry.

The next stop on the tour finds the visitor at Como Fish Farms where you will see catfish, catfish, and more catfish. See first hand all of the day-to-day activity of a catfish farm. This stop is truly a must for catfish lovers.

Yazoo County's agriculture shows visitors
high tech farming methods

Your trip would not be complete without a stop for a true culinary treat at Hines Broad Lake Grocery for some true Southern cooking with atmosphere to match. Here, the visitor will find a meat counter stocked with home grown pork meats from pork chops to Eva's world famous link sausage made with her special blend of venison and pork. Her daily lunch specials bring local farmers from around the area daily. Take home some southern fried catfish, Bar-B-Que, smoked ribs or pickled pigs feet. This stop will provide the visitor one of their most memorable southern experiences.

There are many other fascinating agricultural stops throughout Yazoo County from our Catfish industry to our beautiful Wolf and Broad Lakes. Careful thought and planning should go into choosing the season in which to visit the Mississippi Delta.

This group tour is scheduled by appointment only and recommended for groups of 50 or more.
